1994’s One Step Ahead of the Spider is the third studio album by experimental hip hop artist MC 900 Ft. Jesus (aka Mark Griffin). It pushes the boundaries of genre, seamlessly blending hip hop, industrial, and electronic sounds — creating a truly alternative to the mainstream. The lead single, If I Only Had a Brain, landed on the Billboard charts back in ’94, thanks in part to the Spike Jonze directed video, which was featured in an episode of MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head. The album defies categorization, and has since developed a cult following, making it a perfect fit for the DFW Legacy Series.
