Back in 1989 the aging boy-king of Dallas alternative radio, George Gimarc, brought his new music record box from the Zoo, over to a bright new station....KDGE, The Edge. The airwaves were an open canvas, and Gimarc took the opportunity to expose the greater north Texas area to an alternative mix of artists that most major markets were ignoring. Many of those were local bands and musicians that would not only make their radio debut on the station, but were also featured on Gimarc’s promotional series of compilation CDs dubbed ‘Tales From The Edge’.
11 volumes in 5 years, 199 tracks in all (many for the first time on record), selling over 100K total copies. To this day ‘Tales’ has a cult-like fanbase, as the CDs introduced countless bands that would go on to define the local music scene of that era. Now, over 30 years later the DFW Legacy Series is excited to honor ‘Tales From The Edge’ with the first ever vinyl pressing of selected tracks from the original CD compilations.
